This week we started with the basics: German alphabet, numbers, and introductory phrases. The course is catered towards conversational German, so rather than receiving lists of vocabulary we are given phrases. We have consistent quizzes over the phrases, open discussions comparing the English and German languages, and practice pronunciation constantly. On the 4th day of class this week, our professor took us into Old Town Salzburg, lead us through reading various signs, and gave us 5 euros each to order a drink and ask for the bill in German at Café Tomaselli. By the end of the week, I felt comfortable walking around and being able to communicate if I needed to find something, wanted to pet a dog, or purchase food and drinks as well as say common greetings and phrases of courtesy.
